![]() And some of that could be the root cause of why you engage in retail therapy or why you may cling to stuff you don’t use or wear. Getting rid of clutter doesn’t resolve deep emotional wounds or past trauma. Otherwise, going too fast could prove to be unsustainable and discouraging. Maybe get a storage room and put a handful of items in it each week until you run out of things you don’t use. Decide what sort of end result you desire, and start experimenting with what it would be like to only use what you envision keeping. So in 2018, getting rid of my stuff was merely the final step in a long progression of steps. If this approach intrigues you, I want to share five common mistakes many new minimalists make-and a handful of simple recommendations to get you started on a more mindful, purposeful minimalism journey:Īlthough I completely emptied my entire two-bedroom apartment within 30 days, I had been intentionally prepping to live from a carry-on bag over the previous year by experimenting with taking only what I actually used while on my dozens of work trips. Truth be told, there are numerous ways to start, depending on your individual situation. Travel Light is written for those who also feel called to live with less, but you’re not sure where or how to start. And now, five-plus years later, I’m still happily living from a backpack as I continue to hop around the world, from hotels to Airbnbs to friends’ extra bedrooms. ![]() So I got rid of the carry-on bag and downsized into a backpack. It took me 30 days’ worth of yard sales and Craigslist posts to get rid of over four decades of furniture, art, photo albums, yearbooks, letters, clothing, knickknacks, winter coats, books, my cars, Vespa, and everything else.Īnd about six months into my nomadic journey, I realized something: I still had too much stuff. My bag would effectively become my new apartment as I would begin living nomadically around the world. Long story short, in 2018, I was living in a beautiful two-bedroom apartment in Venice Beach when I felt an inner calling to get rid of everything that didn’t fit inside of my 22-inch carry-on bag. My recent book Travel Light is a how-to guide for the practice of what I call “Spiritual Minimalism,” which is not to be confused with regular old minimalism. They were called “ hounskull” or “hundskugel” for similarity with dog muzzle. Some types of klappvisors had drawn pointed shape. Starting the XV century, bascinets were equipped with klappvisor – a type of visor, which was hinged at the central part of helmets’ forehead. So-called “Onion top” bascinet had pointed top and movable visor (with holes and eye-slits or grid). Helmets were distinguished by crown’s and visor’s shapes. Helmet bascinet had multifarious variant of design and provided with good protection at the same time. This type of medieval helmet had high crown of spherical or conical shape. So great helms passed out of use by warriors.īascinet (or bassinet) replaced heavy topfhelms. Such design was defending at the highest level during the lance tilting on tournaments, but not during dismounted battles. Knights usually were wearing steel cervelliere with mail aventail under the topfhelm. The Great Helm suffered some changes in the early XIV century: protective face plate of harder metal had being attached to the metal conical-shaped dome. Generally, horsemen were using topfhelms, as this helmet had very limited visibility. As eye slits were rather narrow, there were additional ventilation holes on the front side. It could be decorated with additional cross plates. Facepiece of this type of helmet had cross-shaped protrusion. Since Crusades of the XII century, European knights were wearing pot helms (another names “Topfhelm”, “ The Great Helm”) during more than two centuries. This head protection was in use until the middle of the XVI century. Wide brims were lowered a bit, and sometimes had narrow eye slits. Chapel was made as roundish headpiece (slightly conical-shaped or bell-typed). Due to ease of making, helmet was so cheap, that even warriors from lower social classes were able to afford it. So far, I haven't been able to find a way to emulate the simplicity of the old workflow - other than simply using the old snipping tool. Or you may want to both paste it and save it. Is there a way to change the behavior such that Shift+ Win+ S will invoke snipping mode, and the editor will open automatically to allow annotation, cropping, and saving?Īlternatively, a way to open the app directly into "new" mode, or to at the very least save a copy of the snip to some folder so it can be found later? Not every application allows pasting of images, sometimes you need to "Open" them. The new tool does (sometimes) pop up a notification you can click to open the editor, but I have had instances where the notification did not appear, or got lost in a torrent of notifications. From there you can annotate and save the file, or copy it to the clipboard. In the old tool, you could open it in snipping mode, and then it would open the editor directly once you snip the screen. ![]() The new version of the snipping tool in Windows 10 has some nice features, but one big difference between its behavior and that of the old snipping tool is that you can either use the Shift+ Win+ S command to go directly into snipping mode, which then places the image into the clipboard, or you can open the "Snip & Sketch" from which you must click "new" but the resulting snip will be open in the editor once taken. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can see the path to node, the ghost.js file and my browser. It's node, it runs node.exe, it uses the V8 debugger, it uses the V8 profiler because that's what people use. One of the things that's impressed me about the way they integrated node.js into Visual Studio was that they didn't try to recreate or re-do things that already worked well. But you've also got Python and Django, iOS and Android via C#, TypeScript, VB, F#, all in Visual Studio. NOTE: See that File | New Project dialog up there? Visual Studio organizes things by language, so node.js is under JavaScript. Node.js Tools for Visual Studio takes advantage of V8 Profiling API's as well Visual Studio's Reporting features to give you a sense of where your program is spending its time. It's actually pretty freaking amazing how they did it, so I encourage you to download it and give it a try because some of the stuff (even given this is an alpha) is very very clever. So put your popup message and keyboard on a separate routine, with the message text set to always be visible. There is only one physical keyboard, so they will be competing and conflicting. The reason for this is that you can’t have two keyboard components running at the same time, as you have currently. construct your trial from multiple routines), and make the execution of those routines conditional on your popup_prompt_rng variable. It could be be a simple or compound radius depending on what you want. Definitely grind 3” of that face into a nice radius for moving metal faster, simalar to Brian’s. Id orient they way you wanted and Frosty suggested (that mass under your hammer helps keep it immobile so energy goes into your work and not driving the anvil away from the hammer). Something you can’t do with mild steel plate anvil, and the hardened anvils rebound does lessen your fatigue.Ĥ140 heat treated with professional equipment and methods can get you to 55rc or higher. Is it a professional heat treater you know? What did they quote you? but thank you for letting me know about not needing hardened. I was planning on setting it on its side, and using the 4 x 9-1/2" as my striking face. Don't get in a hurry and don't turn your back on a new anvil, brand new tools are a nice thing. Well they are but while you're polishing your skills and BANKING product sales you're shopping for an anvil that'll put a smile on your face. Use the plate while you're plying the TPAAAT, selling products, those things you think of as practice projects. ![]() If it comes to truing up a long piece you can do it easily on a vertical face.
